small intestine transplant

small intestine transplant

My uncle recently had to have all of his intestines and bowel removed due to some type of infection.  My question is, what about a small intestine transplant.  I've done a little research and have found quite a few sites regarding transplants and they seem to be pretty positive.  Is this something that someone in their fifties can have done.  And, is there a fairly decent survival rate?
Thanks

I have been wanting to make contact with people who personally have short bowel syndrome or someone who knows somebody with the syndrome or has information on the syndrome.  My mom had a blood clot in a main artery going to her small intestine.  Of the 22 feet of small intestine she now only has 18 INCHES.  I realize they are doing transplants on children and they are fairly successful.  I would like to know about transplants for adults.  I realize this isn't a very popular problem and my mom's doctors contradict each other.  One doctor says she can get a transplant someday.  Another doctor says she should never get a transplant.  Who is correct.  If someone would like to discuss this topic please e-mail me at ***@****
