stomach/swollen

I had emergency gallbladder surgery  in 10/07 . When I went in for my post-op exam I had mentioned to the surgeon that something wasn't quite right, I was experiencing pain on my right side, he assured me everything was fine & didn't examine me any further.  But, since that time my stomach has gotten quite distended, it feels almost solid when I bend over from my rib cage down.  Even my friends & family have even commented on my appearance & my shirts have gotten tighter around the mid section. When I started doing my floor exercises it became painful, so I had to stop.   I have always had constipation problems before the gallbladder was removed & the surgeon had told me things would improve, well they haven't.   I've gone on 2 day fasting, drinking more water and even more diligent with what I eat.  I have made a appt with a gastro doctor, but wanted your opinion on what they should do & what it could be.

Can't say without evaluation.

But, to evaluate the stomach, an upper endoscopy is likely needed.  This can evaluate for any masses, inflammation, ulcers, or anatomical problems that may be causing your problems.  

I would also consider imaging the abdomen for the presence of any fluid.

If the tests remain negative, you can consider more specialized tests, like a gastric emptying scan to evaluate for gastroparesis.  

These options can be discussed with your personal physician, or in conjunction with  a gastroenterologist.
