Dear Robin,
The list of possible causes for your symptoms depends partially, on the duration of symptoms.  Brief periods of symptoms ( e.g. several days) are usually due to an infectious etiology.  Symtoms (symptoms) of nausea and pain that last for days to weeks can be caused by ulcers, gastroduodenal inflammation and gall bladder disease.  I would need additional information regarding the characteristics of your pain before suggesting specific  diseases.
Excessive gas can also cause nausea, pain and belching.  Have you changed your diet recently?  For example drinking more milk, eating more salads or increasing the quantity of salads that you eat could cause your symptoms.  The other main cause of intestinal gas is swallowed air, often seen in people who are mouth breathers or who talk while eating.
Intestinal diseases can also produce all your symptoms.  I would be more suspicious of this group of diseases if you also had diarrhea.
I suggest that you try over the counter anti gas treatments e.g.   Phazyme.  If you do not have any relief after several days or if your symptoms get worse, you should see your doctor.
This response is offered for your general information and should not replace the conclusions drawn from a careful and complete evaluation by your physician.

If you wish to be seen at our institution, Henry Ford Hospital, please call our PHYSICIAN REFERRAL LINE at(313) 876-2393 and request consultation with Dr. Fogel, one of our experts in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disease.  He would be happy to see you.  After an interview with examination he would decide which if any tests are needed.
