I AM MAKING ANOTHER EFFORT TO GET A RESPONSE FOR THE QUESTION I POSTED ON 8-6-01 LISTED AS MARY SUBJECT WAS SURGERY AS I SAID BEFORE I HAVE MANY HEALTH PROBLEMS MY EXTENSIVE AND SEVERE DIVERTICULAR DISEASE BEING THE ONE I AM UPAGAINST AT THIS MOMENT NOTHING THAT THE DOCTORS HAVE DONE SO FAR SHORT OF SURGERY HAS HELPED .I HAVE A APPOINTMENT SET FOR 9-6-01 TO GO OVER THE FACT IF SURGERY IS GOING TO SOLVE MY PROBLEM.MY QUESTION IF I DESIDE TO GO THROUGH WITH COLON SURGERY WHAT ARE MY CHANCES OF COMMING OUT OF THIS WITH OUT A PERMENENT COLOSTOMY BAG.IM AFARID WITH NO ANSWERS.I ALSO HAVE HEP.C. AND FIBROID MYALGIA, PORTAL VEIN INLARGMENT,CHRONIC ACTIVE GASTRITIS,INTERNAL HEMORRHOIDS,GASTTRIC ANTRAL ULCER,PORTAL GASTROPATHY,REFLUXESOPHAGITIS AND GRADE ONE ESOPHAGEAL VARICES.IM SURE I HAVE MISSED ONE OR TWO OTHERS BUT I HAVE GIVEN THE MOST SERIOUS MY OTHER QUESTION WILL ANY OF MY MANY CONDITIONS CAUSE ANY PROBLEMS WITH A GOOD AND FULL RECOVERY FROM COLON SURGERY AND WILL IT OR IS IT SAFE TO HAVE SURGERY ON BOTH THE SIGMOID COLON AND THE DESENDING COLON AT THE SAME TIME .PLEASE RESPOND SOON TIME IS RUNNING UOT BEFORE I MUST DESIDE ON THE 6TH OF SEPT. I'm sorry I don't know much about the other health problems that you mentioned, the best i can do is tell you about my own experience.  I suffered from ulcerative colitis for a relatively short period of time before an ulcer perforated my colon.  I had to have an emergency colectomy.  I am currently waiting to into the thrid and final procedure for an ileoanal pull through and I'm relieved that this is available to me.  But even if this surgery were not plausible and i had to live with my ileostomy, it is such a relief to not have that illness anymore that I can deal with the incovienence and occasional embarrassment that the bag can cause.  To me, it is worth it just to feel a little bit better.  once again, I'm sorry i couldn't help more and i wish you the best of luck.
