throat air

throat air

I have recently been experiencing a feeling in my throat as if I have to burp.
It's not drastic  enough to cause pain but I am aware of this "pressure" feeling in.  When I try to burp out
the air to  relieve the pressure, I am not able to.  I am not experiencing any acid reflux feelings per se and I can't say I'm having difficulty
swallowing. In fact, it may be that eating seems to make it better (?) but then it comes
back in a few minutes.  The "pressure" seems to be located in the indentation part of my
neck. I notice it every time I swallow.  Sometimes I think it's air from swallowing and
sometimes I think it might be from my stomach.
Any suggestions as to what might help resolve this problem - i.e. over-the-counter meds.
prior to going to my physician.
  Thanks for your imformation.

Dear Renee,
From the information that you present, I am uncertain whether the problem is aerophagia (swallowed air), esophageal reflux, or an esophageal motility disorder.  I would try an over-the-counter medicine such as cimetidine HB and possibly add simethicone.  If symptoms persist or increase in severity I would see my doc for tests to exclude organic disease.
