transmission, virus survival questions

I have a family member concerned about hcv and I think fear has led to him being somewhat irrational, but I am trying to provide all info possible to him. I have found much good info that covers most topics, including transmission, but I still have a few more specific questions. You may only be able to speculate or speak in probabilities, but your opinions are appreciated. My several questions are listed below:

First, if someone who was hvc positive had a cut and basically got any amount of blood on an inanimate object, like a box of cereal at a store and someone were to pick up that box who had a cut on there hand, how likely is transmission? How long can the virus live in small amounts on paper, plasic, etc at room temperature?

Second, if someone has a cut on their hand that is somewhat raw, but not bleeding, is it possible for the virus to enter the body through that cut?

Third, is the virus more likely to live longer in a cold or a warm environment?

Thank you for your help!

To answer your questions:
1) The scenario you described would have an extremely unlikely chance of transmitting the virus.

2) If there is blood-to-blood contact, such as a fresh cut, there is a small chance for the virus to be transmitted.

3) I do not know the specific effects of cold or warm weather on the virus.  This question can be discussed with a virologist or infectious disease physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
