vagal nerve damage?gastparesis?

my son had the vagal nerve stimulator implant in 1998 at the age of 6. in 2006 we removed the battery only, agreeing that attempting to remove the leads were risky. throught out the eight years he has suffered, vomiting, gas, weight loss, naseua, sluggish food digestion(takes 8-12 hrs to digest 1 cup of liquid diet),most recently vomiting blood, difficultly in swallowing, acid reflux, resulting in high risk of asperation . we have ruled out food allergies, ulsers, thickening of the lower part of the stomache. he has seen 4 er dr. & 1 gi dr.and no conclusions have been made. A upper gi scope showed no abnormalities, the only thing noted was a red & irritated esophagus from acid reflux.my question is by leaving the leades (coils) attached to the vagal nerve could cause damage resulting in all the symptoms he is suffering from ? Causing possible streaching ,compression to the vagal nerve,as he grows is it possible for the coils to tighten around the vagal nerve?

You have had a comprehensive evaluation for the symptoms, including multiple consultant visits.

Although possible, I am not aware of studies or case reports that show the coils being associated with the symptoms you describe.  It may be possible that as your son grows, compression or irritation can arise from the coils left in.

However, I can only speculate, and I would discuss this specific question with your personal GI physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Is it possible to damage the vagus nerve, ultimately being diagnosised with gastroparesis, as a result of a major auto accident?  I was rear-ended (I was at a complete stop) and the cops said the other vehicle was traveling at the speed of 55+ mph when impact hit.  I had 7 pinched nerves and was put on numerous medications (inflamation (inflammation), pain medicine, ect.)  Since I saw the accidnet approaching I was able to save myself from serious injuries; I tensed every muscle in my body, now I have muscle spams so bad they are causing ligamite damage.  Is it possible to say the medicine  or the impact only or both caused the gastroparesis?
