what is the most common prognosis for stage 4 cirrhosis

My mother has been diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the liver today. We thought it was cancer but found out an equally upsetting diagnosis. She is 67years and has been drinking heavily for about 25 years now. Also she seems to have all the stage 4 symptoms. Nose bleeds that won't stop, vomitting and fluids in the stomach. She is badly jaundiced and won't eat or drink water. She seems to have lost some control of her bowels and is not walking around. We are people who like to be prepared for things as they happen and do not want a shock, if we can help it. The doctors are very vague about the length of time we can expect her to hold on. Should we be prepared for the loss of her in the next few months or is it probably only weeks.? Please help us prepare. Thanks

Post you question under the Hepatitis forum.  There is a medical person to answer questions on that forum.

Very good site.  Even has an active chat forum.  Most of all, what ever you do, get some help for yourselves.  The doctors are being vague because each person's process of dying is different.  If they are that close to death, they may even advise a hospice.  Just know that you are not qualified to care for her needs like someone who has medical experience.  Take care of yourself and let us know how things are going.
