Both physicians are reasonable options to evaluate recurrent C Difficile.  It is true that an infectious disease specialist may be able to offer insight that a gastroenterologist cannot.

That being said, most of the C Difficle research are being carried out by gastroenterologists (mainly at major academic medical centers).  If you are interested in more investigational therapies, you can consider looking for a GI physician that does research in this area.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
