young girl with many symptoms

I am a 19 year old with many symptoms. As time goes on more and
more symptoms appear. It mainly started with severe chest pains
while exercising. Along with the pains were dizziness, pains in
my right arm and numbness throughout my left leg. Occasionally
I would have pains behind my left eye. Those pains didn't last
long but were frequent. Most of those symptoms went away on their
own for the most part. It has been about one or two months and
now I have pains on my left abdomen right below my rib cage. When
the pains aren't there they are on my right abdomen underneath
my ribcage. I have had 3 anxiety attacks during the night. Those
cause the left side of my head to have a sharp pain. I can't sleep
on my right side anymore because of this soreness under my
ribs. I also have a little rectal bleeding. It is only when I
wipe. There isn't any blood in stool after I have a bowel movement
I eat healthy and I exercise 5 or 6 days a week. I am getting
really paranoid about all these symptoms. Do you think they are
serious? I have made an appointment with an internist but it is
not until the end of next week. I can't wait that long. I am going
to worry myself until someone kindly helps me. Thanks!

Dear Jaime
I read your letter with great interest.  The constellation of pain symptoms that you describe do not suggest a specific disease.  The chest pains with exercising, dizziness, and arm/leg pains may merely represent a response to strenuous exercise or anxiety.  However, it is necessary to exclude cardiac problems.  Similarly, I do not believe that the abdominal pains and rectal bleeding signify serious problems but you should have  a flexible sigmoidoscopy if blood is on the surface of the stool.  If blood is mixed with the stool, a barium enema is needed.  In summary, I do not believe that your problems represent serious illness, however, you would probably benefit from seeing your physician and having a complete history and physical examination.
This response is offered for your general information and should not replace the conclusions drawn from a careful and complete evaluation by your physician.
