Cheap Solution for Dietary Fiber?

One of my friends told me to take 200ml of light barley water mixed with half tea spoonful of Isabgul husk soaked in it, along with my lunch and dinner every day. I was told that this will give me much needed dietary fiber - both soluble and unsoluble type. I have been taking this for the last 20/22 days and getting good bowel movement. But, will it be good to continue with this? Please advise.

Thanks to you both for your response.

However,
      (1) is "200ml of light barley water mixed with half tea spoonful of Isabgul husk soaked in it" "too much"? AND
      (2) has "juice", "milk" and "egg" anything to do with 'fiber'?

Regards,

That barley and husk routine sounds pretty unwieldy to me.  I daily eat Cheerios, acidophilus milk, small glass of juice, whole wheat bread, and a salad.  I also get enough to eat in general, and have eggs three times a week.  Once in a while you should throw in a fresh fruit or raw carrot as a snack, and eat a dark green vegie with meals, and that will also provide more fiber.  But plenty of water is indeed the key to good digestion, as is regular exercise and a variety of whole foods.

Provided you drink enough water, it should be fine. The problem with too much fiber is that it can cause your system to evacuate faster than it takes to soak up nutrition. Additionally, it can get in the way of water absorption. If you take a good multivitamin in addition to drinking plenty of water (the more fiber, the more water you need), it should be fine.
