My young son is passing black, really black bowel movements

Is this a sign of intestinal bleeding in children too?

Dear Claxton,
Although black stool in children (like adults) can be due to causes other than bleeding (e.g. taking Pepto Bismol), it is CRUCIAL to exclude a bleeding problem in the GI tract.  You should take him to the ER for evaluation.
