13 year old daughter - constant nauseau

by Diane__0__0, Oct 22, 1998 12:00AM

For the past 10 months my 13 year old daughter has been experiencing almost constant nauseau.  Although nauseau is her most consistent symptom, she does also experience stomache aches and occassional diarrhea.  She does not vomit with any ot these symtoms.  Her pediatrician checked for parasites 2 different times through bowl stool analysis and ran blood tests at two different times, the results of both were positive.
We also tried taking her off of dairy products for 2 weeks.  Although she seemed better, the results did not seem to indicate lactose intolerance.  An H-pylori test showed nothing, and she was put on an H2 Blocker with no success.  The pediatrician then referred us to a gastrologist who ordered an ultrasound and a barium e-ray.  Everything seemed fine.  Where do we go from here?

Dear Diane,
Your daughter needs an evaluation of the upper gastrointestinal tract to exclude structural abnormalities as well as functional changes i.e. gastroparesis.  You should discuss with the pediatrician the possibilities of ordering an upper gi series with small bowel follow through as well as a radioisotope gastric emptying study.
