13 year old son intermittent vomiting for over 6 months - 20 pound weight loss

Sorry if this is long.  My 13 year old got sick last March and basically vomited intermittently several times a week for about a month.  He lost a lot of weight so my pediatrician had us go to emergency room.  They basically came up with the theory that he was constipated and gave him a "clean out."  He did have diarrhea right before he got sick.  He felt better once he got fluids and was sent home.  Five days later, it started all over again.  Basically, when he has these episodes, he burps, farts, and eventually vomits.  He's had an endoscopy, gastric emptying study, and colonoscopy, all normal.  He's had stool samples and food allergy testing - all normal.  His blood work was normal except his bilirubin was high.  He had an ultrasound of his gallbladder which was normal.  I just had a HIDA scan and haven't gotten results yet, but the tech did not seem at all concerned during it.  My son seems to improve sometimes.  He will for maybe a month or six weeks or so and not be throwing up, but since this started, he has had intermittent diarrhea.  It seems he is either throwing up or having diarrhea.  Right now, he has started with the throwing up again and it's showing no sign of letting up.  I'm afraid we are headed for another 20 pound weight loss.  He has zofran but it only helps a little.  And it never stops the vomiting.  Has anyone had something similar and actually had a diagnosis or resolution?  I've thought about cyclic vomiting syndrome, but the diarrhea component doesn't seem to fit.  And he does not have DRASTIC or dramatic vomiting - he just basically throws up what he eats.  He is not woken in the middle of the night to vomit or anything like that.  We do have a history of migraines and epilepsy in our family, but I'm not sure about CVS.  Does anyone have any insight? Cause I'm getting pretty desperate and it's so hard to watch this and feel so helpless.

Also, how long after eating does it take for him to become ill?

You can try elimination diets, and see if there is something bothering him. There are things he is likely eating at every meal that may be bothering him. There could be an underlying parasitic infestation also. Look towards natural remedies.
