What I'm saying is that I'm pretty sure your doctor meant hernia when he said abdominal tear.  A virus would not cause this.

doctor never mentioned a hernia at all .she was told  the abdominal tear may have been caused by a virus .. biopsies were done all neg.. she is waiting for a referral approval to Stanford..  he does have occasional silent seizures EEG confirmed this.he was getting episodes of confusion and would space out for about ten seconds and would get very emotional after them he had an episode at my place and i asked my sister to have him checked for seizures I am an  ncv tech so i see a lot of neuro issues..    whats also concerning is in march he weighed 165 now he is 120 scans show constipation. which was treated . other than that she is keeping a log of symptoms and  occurrence..so i figure if others experience similar symtoms i can get more info..

I'm thinking that the doctor may have meant a hernia (for example a hiatal hernia) when he said "unexplaned tear in the abdominal wall".  This would be a good thing to clarify.  Did he have biopsies of his esophagus during the endoscopy?

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  With what test was he diagnosed with an "unexplained tear in the abdominal wall" that the doctors thought could be fixed with prilosec?  Does he have a hernia?
