15 hour fast prior to Upper GI showed food still present in stomach, why?
What can cause food to remain in stomach after 15 hours of fasting?
I just had an Upper GI. I had fasted 15 hours prior to test. I was told food was still present in stomach.
Test could not evulate stomach, for polyps, for ulcers etc...
What causes this to happen?
I am very nervous regarding this finding.
I am scheduled to see my doctor in 2 weeks, but am worried now.
Does anyone have any ideas, information, experiences with this type of result after an Upper GI?
When something like this happens it's typically attributed to delayed gastric emptying, also called gastroparesis. In some cases it can be due to a neuropathy due to something like diabetes, but in other cases the cause is not known. The doc will probably suggest a follow up study to check into the possibility of gastroparesis.
