16 yr old with rectal bleeding and elevated liver enzymes

My 16 yr old son has had rectal bleeding (varying degrees) with every bowel mov't for the past 4 months.  Three days ago, he underwent an upper/lower GI scope and no source of the bleeding could be detected and, per the doctors, everything looked normal.  The next course of action is an ultrasound of his liver and gall bladder, as well as the "pill cam" (to determine if the possible source of the bleeding is in the small intestine).  During the course of blood work, it has been discovered that he has elevated liver enzymes.  In March, the levels were 100-200 range; 11 days ago the level was determined to be in the 300 range.  Additional blood draws were done 3 days ago to check for possible viral/autoimmune issues, etc.; however, the results won't be back until sometime next week.  (The doctor also said that it is a future liver biopsy is "likely". )  My son is reporting no pain and his energy level is normal.  He doesn't drink or use drugs, other than occasional use of ibuprofen for muscle aches related to sports.  I am trying very hard to keep my concern/anxiety contained; however......
Has anyone ever experienced a similar situation and had it determined what the issue was?

I don't know what his cholesterol levels are; we are due to get last week's blood work done within the next few days, so maybe that will be one of the things they checked.  He reports having varying types of stools, most often loose but also constipation from time to time; blood is always present.  He has recently informed us that he is also having some degree of stomach pain and/or upset stomach and/or stomach cramps daily.  Then...just this evening, a new symptom appeared; he reported that "clear goo" came out when he urinated.  (Needless to say, this was very upsetting to him.)  We ruled out STD as being a possible cause for that, so I'm guessing it's tied in to whatever else is going on.  I'll be calling the doctor tomorrow to alert him to this latest symptom.
Thanks so much for responding!

Do his elevated liver enzymes indicate or point to a cholestatic problem? The ALP will tend to be much more elevated relative to both ALT & AST in this case. Also, does he tend to always have either loose stools or constipation ... never quite normal? I've had rectal bleeding in the past and it would vary from just a little to alarming then go away for sometime only to reappear again.
