and amalyse levels are still high 3 weeks later. I have had an ultra sound and MRCP and both came back normal, the MRCP showed inflammation of my pancreas, I am concerned because my stools are still pale and greasy and my Lipase
and Amal. levels are still high. Could i have pancreatic cancer???
I would be appreciative if a doctor or someone with a medical background could help ASAP
thanks
) and I have a Port in my chest plugged up 75 percent of the time to a pump which pumps medicine into me even when I am asleep. Try tat! I have been fighting this along time I am 45 and it started when I as 32
Do not worry so much about it. I do not think that you have a pancreatic cancer (your tests would show this, especially MRCP). You just had pancreatitis
. Start eating 6 times a day taking small amounts of food. You will be fine.
As for me - I too was in a hospital with pancreatitis. Certainly, it is very bad thing. My lipase level was high. This usually takes days or even weeks when lipase and amulase go down. So, do not worry too much.
I too am worried and have had an inflammed pancreas since feb. I have had a ct ,mri and eus and am scheduled for a follow up eus next wk (last one was in feb)-nothing has shown on them so far
I am 27 and have been dealing with this Pancreas stuff for a few years now. I have had several bouts of acute Pancreatitis, hospitalizations, gallbladder removal (wasnt the problem apparently), CT scans, MRCP, etc etc...My lipase level was once something like 14,000..it was off the charts. The Dr. said I was close to dying and I had been fine the day before..well close to fine anyways. I just wanted to say, WHAT IS THE DEAL? WHat's wrong with us all? There is no apparent cause, the Dr's wont do the ERCP because apparently I might get pancreatitis from it! OH NO, they wouldn't want that to happen, would they??? and I'm tired,so very very tired of all the pain. I don't really eat anymore, I'm losing weight daily, and did I mention how tired I am of it? :( Some amazing yound Med student that hasn't yet become disillusioned by the healthcare system needs to work on this for us, dont you think? I wanna get better now please and I'm sure you all do too!
My husband was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis last year. He is 40 years old. He spent a month in the hospital on strong pain meds and lipids (nutrients passed directly into the bloodstream through an artery in the neck.) With nothing by mouth. His numbers were off the charts (somewhere in the 12,000 range). The doctors didn't think he would make it as an acute attack usually only lasts 24 hr to a few days. An MRI showed a cyst and a swelling of the bile duct. He got sent to a specialist (great doc!) They have done all sorts of blood tests including a blood test for pancreatic cancer (thankfully negative) and the MRCP with no success. He has none of the prerequisites for pancreantitis. We were told that in 30% of the cases there is no reason and can go away on it's own (bad news is because a cause is never found it can come back too). The MCRP procedure did cause a minor attack where he had to spend the night at the hospital, but the 2nd didn't cause any attack at all.
Since it has been going on for so long and the cyst and swelling of the bile duct isn't getting any smaller they are going to do the "Whipple Procedure" in 2 weeks. It's a very serious surgery where they play cut and paste with the digestive track. His aunt had this done and although it has a very long recovery period said it was worth it and hasn't had any problems with it since. The stressing point is to have a doctor who has done this procedure a lot!
We also found out that one of their other patients has a cyst the size of a softball and has no pain at all! Every person is different and so is the way their body works. My husband is on a low fat diet and has been told to take it easy. He still gets cramping and fatty stools. He is also on pancreatic enzymes (to help get the levels under control) and tramadol (non-narcotic pain killer).
My best advice is to go to a specialist, not a regular GI doctor. (If you live in the Milwaukee, WI area I suggest Freodert Medical College.) Keep looking. The key is to find a doc who has a lot of experience. Don't stop until you do. This will help so much!
