24, Constipated, Passing Bloody Mucous, Narrow Stools

I am a 24 year old female with no family history of colorectal problems.  For the last two months I have been experiencing constipation.  There seems to be a cycle as follows:  for about 7-10 I feel bloated and feel the urge to produce a BM, but am unable to do so, this period is followed by 1-2 days of passing bloody mucous along with gas, finally after all of this I get cramps, which feel like diarrhea cramps, and produce long narrow BM's.  These BM's do not relieve me though.  I feel somewhat better, but do not feel great.  The first time this happened was about the middle of February 2002,and then again it happened last week.  In between the two I had SOMEWHAT more regular BM's, but still not completely satisfying.  I have an appt. set up, on April 16, but would appreciate any information to ease my mind before then.  It will be a long wait.  Thank you for your time.

Is it really that long of a wait to see your regular medical doctor? Perhaps you could explain to the office what is going on and that you really need to see him sooner. Do you have any pain? I would try all you can to get in sooner.

We are new to the area so I don't have a regular physician here yet.  The receptionist just told me to call if I have any problems between now and then.  That doesn't seem like much, but this was the second place I called and the first place didn't seem to care about my symptoms at all.  That appt. would not have been until April 22.  So I was at least relieved to have someone who seemed concerned on the other end of the line.  She tried to put me through to talk with a nurse, but was unable to do so.  Maybe I will call back and request to speak to a nurse again.  My Father-in-Law is a retired surgeon and he said to just keep the appt. and in the mean time take a stool softener.  He thought it could be a fissure...but I'm not having any pain, and from what I've read that is painful.  Thanks for taking the time to respond. I appreciate it.

I think that is a good idea as well. Speaking to a nurse if possible. Good luck!
