24 hour ph study

24 hour ph study

Hello, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I'm currently hooked up to this monitor for the 24 hour study, it shows 2 ph levels, one being the throat, one being the stomach I have noticed my throat ranges between 5-7 which I believe to be normal, whereas my stomach ranges from 1-7, my stomach becomes nutural when I eat! Could this be the cause of my bloating, 'food baby', pain and discomfort after eating? That my stomach produces a lot of acid whilst 'resting' (1.2-1.7) yet when I eat produces nothing for quite a while?

Hi there!

These are essentially normal values. The pH in the stomach normally ranges from 1.2-3.5 and around 5-7 in the oesophagus (throat). (The values may slightly differ with the laboratory) Eating food neutralizes the stomach pH for some time. Abnormal results are when the pH values in the oesophagus resemble those of the stomach or the gastric pH is found to be highly acidic even after eating food. You may like to discuss the results in detail with your doctor.
Hope this information is helpful.

Take care!
