I had an endoscopy done of 10/12 after being diagnosed with a hiatal hernia a couple of months ago.  None of the meds worked.. so I had that scope done.  I apparently have now hiatal hernia.... I am at a loss.  Been dealing with this for a year. If I don't have a hernia what could be the cause of the heartburn (DO NOT have reflux or irritation in my throat) and pain & bloating that I get under my ribs and in the middle of my upper abdomin (abdomen), and in between my breasts?? Also get occasional chest pains and my left arm hurts and goes numb alot.  Is it possible that my liver is stressed from working harder after my gallbladder surgery?? All of my bloodwork has been OK. a CBC and one to check for ammonia levels in the blood.  If I had something Bad such as cancer would those blood tests show something to flag it and prompt further testing?  Please help because I am getting really tired of feeling this way. By the way I went to a cardiologist about the chest pains and arm going numb and he said that my heart is fine.

Munster - I know what you are going through.  Six years ago I ended up in the emergency room.  Thought I was having a heart attack at 35 years old.  I had all the symptoms you described.  I was diagnosed with a "floating" hiatal hernia as well as Acid Reflux.  Unfortunately the acid reflux was so bad that it burned the flap at the top of my stomach completely away.  I had to have the surgery called Nissan "F" (don't know how to pronounce or spell that particular f word).  The surgery "cured" what ailed me until I had my Gall Bladder removed this past April.  Now I'm back to having acid reflux, terrible heartburn and continue to have a pain in my right side, just underneath my ribcage.  I take Nexium (from the makers of Prilosec).  It seems to work really well for the heartburn.  You probably need to see a Gastro doctor and ask him about the Nexium when you are in there.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  I'll do my best to try and answer them.  Best of luck to you.

Part 1.  For 3 years I had a pain under the right side rib cage.  Became addicted to dihydrocodien.
Part 2.  During the 3 years my wife and I looked after her mother who was very partial to tasty lamb chops - with burnt fat under the grill.
Part 3   Three months before she died we stopped eating fatty lamb chops.  I loved them.
Part 4.  By the time she passed on the pain stopped.
Part 5.  Three months ago I took to eating lamb chops.  Whithin days the pain returned.  Gave up the lamb chops. The pain stopped!

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Maybe you have what I have... non functioning gallbladder. Did ya get a HIDA scan? I get chest pain now and then. I have the pan on the right side...you know that! The HIDA scan showed my GB isn't emptying at all and they tested the function by having me eat something with fat in it to see if my GB will contract. I suggest that test....and I've had every test in the book! Don't give up okay....I know how ya feel here. DOn't let yourself fall into depression (i have been praying for you!)...sincerely Lisa
