6 yr old Daughter with Stomach Pain and Redness in Stomach and Esoph.

by TheresaM26, Sep 23, 2009 12:54PM
My 6 year old has expericenced acute stomach pain since May.  Just prior to the pain, she was finishing up a course of Zithro for a walking pneumonia, and the night it started, she ate some noodles and the outside of an eggroll from a Chinese restaurant.  That night she vomited once, and has had daily and nightly pain around her belly button since that day regardless of what she eats.  Other symptoms include nausea, and some constipation.  No diarrehea, no vomiting, no loss of appetite.   Her prior diet was good: Whole grain breads, vegetables, dairy, fruit etc.  very little junk food. She is able to sleep through the night after being coaxed to sleep through the pain with light back massages.   The pediatrician prescribed Prevacid and a laxative which she was on for a couple of months and didn't work to reduce pain.  A GI specialist swiched to Nexium and it seemed to get worse.  She is now on Protonix 20 mg granuals which also doesn't seem to be working.  So far, all tests have come up negative (food allergy, stool work, celiac, etc.).  Blood work showed her on the high end of AST but within the normal range.   She had an endoscopy yesterday (which confirmed redness in stomach and esophagus) and was biopsied for H. Pylori, celiac and one other esophogial related disease.   The doctor said that if the biopsies come back negative, they will assume it' GERD and treat accordingly.  I am finding it hard to believe that being on an acid blocker for this long hasn't done anything -- and my gut tells me it related to the combination of the impact of Zithro and some kind of rare bacteria from the food.   If the test come back negative, would you put her on an anti-parasitic?  Is there anything else that comes to mind to help us get her better??  Thanks, Her Concerned Parents.
