Abdominal pain and nausea.

Abdominal pain and nausea.

Please help. My 16 year old son who is very atheltic and not overweight is having constant severe upper right side abdominal pain (stabbing) and nausea and sometimes dizziness and lower back pain.He has had these symptoms for the past 3 weeks,He wakes up in pain and goes to bed in pain sleeping maybe 2 hours a night.Prior to this episode he suffered similar pains 12 months ago he has had xrays, ultrasound, endoscopy and colonoscopy all tests come up negative.Doctors keep saying (IBS).He has been on every type of medication for cramping, nausea and pain all have not helped.

He just had another xray this week which showed he had a full abdomen so we have started giving him movicol to try and get his bowls moving and we have also given him an enema.
The ultrasound showed that his gallblader (gallbladder) wall is slightly thickened.
Could the gallblader (gallbladder) or having a full abdomen be causing these symptoms.

Have they done any bloodwork on him?  I think I'd seek a second opinion from another GI specialist.  IBS is never this bad, they are missing something.  It sounds like a blockage, which explains his stool not moving thru.  I went thru this with my son and it took a third GI to properly diagnose him.  Also, they need to look closer at the gallbladder, he is very young to have a thickened gallbladder, and you need to know WHY?  Also, get him in to see an Endocrinologist to make sure all is well with his endocrine system which impacts every major organ.  Have your son eat several light meals throughout the day and plenty of liquids.  Have him eat yogurt like Activia which replenishes the good bacteria in his system.  He should not have to suffer like this, and I know your frustration!  Keep seeing other doctors until you get answers.  There are good ones and bad ones, and one thing I learned the hard way is if they don't know the answer, they also won't look for one!  I wish you all the best, and take care.

So his symptoms are right side abdominal pain, nausea and dizziness?  My son started off with those symptoms as well and all tests came back negative.  They wanted to label it as anxiety- which I knew not to be the case.  He was also very athletic, played soccer year round, plus baseball.  He finally had to quit all sports due to his worsening symptoms.

After a couple of years, he was finally diagnosed with dysautonomia or POTS.  If nothing else turns up, maybe look into that.  There are 2 good websites dinet. org and ndrf. org. It is very hard to get diagnosed, as many doctors are not familiar with it.
