Abdominal spasms

I have, for the last ten months, been having, what I can only describe as spasms, in my stomach, which seem to originate just below the sternum, making it difficult to breathe and resulting is a lot of pain at the point of orgin.

I have been in the hospital at least four times and have had tests for epilepsy, undergone an ultra-sound and a barium GIT.  I have been told that it could be stress, but aside from that no doctor seems able to concur with another about what the problem is, or even if there is an actual problem.  It had come to a point, where they have been happening at work and my boss is now considering putting me on short term disability, so that I can get better

I would really like to know, if there is indeed a problem and if so is there a solution.

This discussion is related to abdominal muscle spasms..

Do you know why DOCTORS are having a difficult time solving this so-called problem???!!!!!
A:  Because we EMOTIONALLY created it, and if you need to comfort it, Magnesium/Zinc is good to balance it, and if it gets severe, take CRAMP 911, it works wonderfully but expensive!

To "Emotionally" deal with it, learn EFT on Youtube!!

I'm a fellow sufferer - have posted today with a similar question, but I forgot to add that I keep waking in the night for things, and during these periods when it;s really bad, even if my stomach is calm when I wake and i have a sip of water it often spasms when it hits the bottom'. Anybody else have this? just water does it? I think 27 worriedmum is on the right track - nerves down there being 'upset' by things. I know i have something wrong with my sympathetic nervous system but they aren't sure exactly what. Anyway, I'm most interested in the swallowing thing. No trouble swallowing or going down, just when it lands, whatever it is.

I am not sure why you are having stomach spams although the location that you are referring to is related to enzymes and HCL points.  Depending on your other symptoms it may be important for you to take digestive enzymes or HCL. What are your other symptoms?

Some common causes I have found are:
Parasites:
Food Allergies:
Nerves:
"The sympathetic and parasympathetic systems are antagonistic.  Either one or the other is activated most all of the time.  The sympathetic system, however, always takes precedence, because it is concerned with one’s survival. To promote balance and healing, the goal is to keep the sympathetic system turned off as much as possible.  This allows the maximum healing to occur.  Simple ways to do this are to rest, relax and think happy thoughts.  As soon as you think fearful or angry thoughts, or become too physically active, the body shifts into a sympathetic stance." To digest food properly you must be in a parasympathetic state.  If not; it could contribute to stomach spams.

You might consider Hiatal Hernia as a reason.

Hi all.  I am researching any information on the "spasms" I am currently experiencing.  I have them constantly at almost all positions - sitting, standing, moving.  They are minor, almost like a nervous twitch under my ribcage on my right side.  Not painful, more annoying then anything else, but stressful as I don't know what it's from. I was told by someone that almonds have a mineral that works within the muscles and may help.  I will try the magnesium idea as well.  Please let me know if any other ideas come to mind.

Thanks!

I have stomach spasms which have only happened four times in the last few months. Always at night. They seem to be lasting longer and are more intense. Drinking cold water and laying on the cold bathroom floor helps if I can stand to stay still for a moment. Have you tried magnesium? I was told I should try it.

I am also having what appears to be stomach spasms.  They are not spasms of the intestines but of the stomach muscles themselves. They come on suddenly if I move a certain way also have had them below my rib cage. Very uncomfortable and a weak feeling after.  Have you found out an information on yours

Thanks

It is possible that you could be having spasms and there are some meds that you could try to use, but I'm wondering if you're having any other symptoms and what the spasms seem to feel like to you?

Did the barium study show anything - like reflux? Have you had an upper endoscopy? Are you having other symptoms?

Are you noticing that the spasms seem to occur with the intake of any specific foods? Are you on any medications? Do you have any underlying medical conditions? I think we're going to need more info before any suggestions can be made.
