Abdominal upper right quadrant pain, just below ribs

Hi,
I too have upper right quad pain just below my ribs. I am a male, 46yrs old 6ft and weigh 175 lbs. My pain comes and goes and has for about 6 months. It is not severe pain, but at times is more annoying than anything. It feels like there is something in there pinching me. I went to an internal med MD in July. He ran blood tests that all came back fine. He sent me to have an abdominal ultrasound which showed only "healthy" organs. No dilated bile duct, no gall stones, liver enzymes were in normal range. It is 4 months later and the pain is still happening. When I sit, or bend at the waist, I can feel the pain. It is not a deep, internal pain, but seems close to the surface, just to the right of that little cartlidge/bone that splits the rib cage...just to the right of the stomach. What the heck could it be? My MD put me on Nexium, thinking maybe it is peptic in nature, but 60 days of Nexium and still the pain persists. I am freaking out because my dad passed away this past March due to a rare appendix cancer (pseudomixoma peritonei) that several MD's could not find, nor diagnose properly once they found it, another story in itself...so you know how the paranoia sets in. I don't have a lot of faith in MD's right now. Anyone out there have any input? Can the liver be screwed up for this long and still avoid being detected? Can inflamation be detected by ultrasound? It feels like it's burning, not like heartburn, but a firey sensation...hard to describe. Someone, please help me settle my fly away brain...thanks.

I had RUQ pain for several months. At first I was just having alot of reflux and some mid discomfort and I thought I had an ulcer. Then one night I had the most terrible pain. I could not lay down...only pace around and no amount of otc pain meds helped. The pain was right under my ribcage thru to under my rt. shoulder blade. It felt like someone was sticking a hot poker all the way thru. Sometimes I would feel like there was a tight band wrapping around my rib cage where the band of my bra runs. After the really bad attack, I went to the doctor and she ordered an U/S and it showed a large stone in the neck of my gallbladder. I hate to wait a few weeks to get the surgery consult and schedule the surgery. In the meantime I ate virtually no fat b/c I'm a nuclear med. tech.(I do Hida scans) and I knew fat causes the gallbladder to contract to release bile for digestion. When my surgery finally came I was in constant dull pain even on a no fat diet. The moment I woke up from my surgery, the pain was gone and I've had no problems since. My stone looked like a small lemon(slightly larger than a marble, but had that lemon shape). I'm only posting to share my experience as my symptoms and resolution may help others. My reflux also went away after the surgery. I only get reflux now after eating really spicey food which is normal for me but before being diagnosised I had it daily no matter what I ate. If it's gallbladder, I say get it out. I've never felt better and my surgeon was awesome. The only problem after surgery is you will get diarrhea after eating fatty foods for awhile while your body adjusts to having no storage vessel for the bile. My surgeon said my body would adjust and he was right. I can eat fatty foods now without any trouble. It took about 10 months for it to adjust. Still no major problem. I just wouldn't eat highly fatty food while out in public. Now it's fine.

Gee, Phooey,
For the prior posts. I knew I was forgetting something important.

I have been eating gluten free even though I tested negative twice for Celiac disease, I think I may be sensitive to gluten. I just was not feeling well whenever I ate bread.

So I have been much better during the last month eating gluten free, taking supplements for ulcer/ mucosal lining and doing The Egoscue Method.

Hope this helps you all.
