Acid Reflux?

by fadeaway872, Feb 26, 2008 12:35PM
Today when I woke up I had a heaviness in my chest, it hurt to breathe, nausea with a bad taste in my mouth, and a burning sensation in my chest. I took 3 tums and that helped. I still have a very very minor burning sensation in my chest though. Like I can barely feel it. Anways I am wondering if this sounds like acid reflux to you. I think I have had acid reflux before just not as bad and should I follow up with my doctor with this even though I have had just one bad episode with this?

Thank you.

Those are certainly some symptoms of acid reflux. You could follow up with your doctor and get a referral to a Gastroenterologist to see if your acid reflux is in relation to a hiatal hernia.

It could be something as simple as a change in diet to help control symptoms, or your doctor could prescribe a PPI to deal with the reflux, before you ask for a full GI workup. Provided that's what is truly causing your symptoms.
