Aciphex - Bloating??!!

by itsalwayssomething, Jan 27, 2002 12:00AM
I have taken Prilosec for approx 5 yrs (up to 60mg/day) and was recently switched to Aciphex due to cost (military healthcare system).  Have been on Aciphex only 5 days but last couple of days have noticed extreme bloating - today feel like I'm pregnant!  I realize Prilosec and Aciphex are both PPIs, and should be the same, but can't understand what else could be causing this, and it's just very coincidental having just switched to Aciphex! Has anyone else had this problem with Aciphex, or am I just paranoid?  Thanks!

I took aciphex also. The bloating was awful. I've since stopped taking it, and I am a lot more comfortable. only a little bloating now. I just don't take anything. I am also with the military health system. You can take your scrips to a local pharmacy and only pay 15% of your bill. I find it much better because the military is so limited with what they carry.

I haven't had this problem with Aciphex at all.  I've been on it for a couple months now.

Debating Prilosec or Aciphex since there is no relief in what I have tried as of yet.
Did any of you not find relief in Nexium and yes with Prilosec?
My health ins. only covers 2 PPI's and that is a shame as well.
If your docotr faxes a sheet to the insurance stating it is the only one that works then in a week you can receive But no decrease in the fee ? I think Nexium was 4.99 a pill, But samples are given due to it is new.

How long before you felt relief on Aciphex ?
any effects on your nervous systm?
I know each body is different But curious.
Did you find relief in other drugs? Is heartburn , GERD your primary concern?
Thanks

Aciphex: Has a help line 1-888-422-4743  They I am sure would be interested in your symptoms to the drug as well.
I learned alot by phoning. It is good to research all these tummy drugs our doctors want us to try.

I have been on Aciphex for 3 months because of a persistent terrible cough that is thought by my doctors to be caused by reflux. I am currently on 80 mg. per day. Haven't had bloating, but feel like my stomach is full of rocks. The cough is getting a little better on 80 mg (lower doses did nothing at all) but don't know how long one can take this stuff at that level. Does anyone know? My problems all began with a virus 6 months ago. Before that I never knew what heartburn felt like. Anyone else have this experience or know what virus may cause this and whether the symptoms eventually go away on their own?

I had a very different reaction to aciphex.  Besides bloating, it made my heart beat rapidly.  Very scary.  I got off it right away.  Never trying that again.

I have had a "swollen abdomen" for 2 years. When I get up in the morning, my stomach (abdomen) is almost flat, by 5 PM, I have gained at least 4 to 5 inches around my abdomen, I look like I am pregnant. It is miserable, my doctor said my CT scan showed that all of my tissue in my abdomen was now scar tissue and nothing can be done. I am miserable, have a hard time breathing, sitting, walking or doing anything. Does anyone have or had this type of symton?  I had explosive diaherra for 5 months in 1999 when this started. Was determined that I have Microscopic Colitis. Any suggestions on the swelling?
