Acrid Urine Smell

by scoonan, Nov 25, 2001 12:00AM
Lately I have had a very sweet and acrid smell to my urine and it is embarrassing.  Believe it or not it smells the same as if I had drunk a glass of Chardonnay shortly before.  The problem is that I have not had ANY wine and very little alcohol in since last month yet the smell persists.  Could this be an indication of a liver problem or maybe an infection of some sort?

Have you been dieting by any chance or eating less?  Sometimes when dieting your body creates Ketones which can give off a sweet smell.  Also presciption drugs, water intake or even food can do the same thing to urine.  Try drinking 8 glasses of water a day (which is good for you anyway) and see if there is an improvement.  If your still noticing the smell after a few days go have a urinalysis done just to rule out a none symptomatic bladder or kidney infection. But let me tell you that liver problems do not come to mind here.
