Acute Gastritis and continued discomfort, could it be something else.
I was recently in the ER (4 days ago) with severe stomach pain and was diagnosed with Gastritis. I was treated for the pain given a whole host of acid reducing medication (IV) some Hydrocodone and sent home. I was also given a perscription for an acid reducer and Vicodin. I went to see my Family
doctor and he concurred with the diagnosis. I have been on the "acid reducers" for 4 days, I have only taken a few of the Vicodin because frankly I do not like the way I feel on it. When I do not take the Vicodin I find little relief. I cannot sleep more than 3 hours/night, my stomach is always quesy and honestly last night the pain was almost as severe as what originally drove me to the emergency
If you were given PPIs as a form of acid reduction, it can take up to 14 days for them to fully reach functioning capacity based upon research results. However, for some people it can take longer periods of time. Your doc may want you to stay on the acid meds for about 8 weeks to see if there's improvement or not.
You may also want to consider following a GERD diet. It can be of help in trying to bring the issue under control.
#1 I contacted my doctor and he perscriped Sucralfate. He now thinks I might have an ulcer.
#2 I am already essentially following the GERD diet, I have a VERY good diet. I am in excellent physical condition. (i.e I am a triathlete and typically have a resting heartrate in high 30's or low 40's)
