Allergic Esophagitis

Our son is 18 years old and has been diagnosed with allergic esophagitis..not sure of the spelling.
At first we eliminated soy and dairy from his diet because he showed an allergy of this, but after a long time of this elimination his esophagus is still inflammed, with esophils, and in addition a granular cell tumor was found that was 2 centimeters.
The Doctors are not concerned with the granular cell as much as they are with trying to avoid scarring of the esophagus.
They are placing him on predisone for four weeks hoping this will place the situation into a remission, then they will do an ultra sound endoscopy to see what it all looks like.
Since eliminating foods did not change the appearance, they said for him to go back to eating the foods he knows will not bother him.
My concern is the effects of predisone. I have faith in our Doctors but I always wish to research and get as much feeback as I am able to.
They are saying it is very rare to find this granular cell in someone so young and in the esophagus, in addition they said this disease is so new that they are also learning as they go along. They suggested it could be airborn, possibly. We have dogs that have accidents always in the house and that is in the air always, but so far they have cases of kids having this and they have dogs....very perplexing...any views?

I have been having the same trouble that your son has but have not been diagnosed as such. They just call mine reflux (GERD). I too have a dog in the house. I have allergies to dander that comes off of dogs. I do not want to give up my dog. I am on allergy medicine (prescribed) and nose spray. When I am away from the house and dog my indigestion and reflux go away. What are you finding out? What does your son's doctor want to do?
