Allergy induced Hearburn?

I have been struggling with cronic Heartburn for 10 weeks straight. After an endoscopy and 10 weeks of different kinds of proton pump inhibitors I'm still not getting any relief. I just read yesterday about Eosinophilic Esophagitis, which is a relatively new diagnosis and is caused from an allergy to certain foods or even airborne substances or pets. I have a relatively new pet (cat) in the home since Nov. so I'm wondering if I've developed an allergy to him, or to a food.  My gastroenterologist didn't mention anything about an allergy being a possibility.  I hope to find relief soon!

I have had the endoscopy (March 20) - she said there was inflammation and when I read the report it said I had moderate amounts of eosinophils- so I'm going to check back with her today. I think this allergy diagnosis is new enough and maybe even some doctors don't recognize it fully yet. She just thinks it's reflux. But there has to be some reason that the proton pumps don't cure it completely.

The only way to get a diagnosis of EE is via upper endoscopy (EGD) with biopsy of the esophagus. You may want to discuss having an EGD done with your GI person.
