Anal Fissures help needed

by coltswin, Nov 20, 2001 12:00AM
Went to a doctor because of bleeding and intense pain when passing stool. He says I have a anal fissure. 4cm by 2cm. Gave
me suppositories and Nitroglycerin (.2). Says if it doesn't heal
I will have to have surgery. I want to know if my fissure is large comperable to others, and if anyone has had one and had to have surgery. Doc seems quick to promote surgery.

Thanks

Hi,
I'm the exact same situation. Except my Dr wants to do a sigmoidoscopy and try a botox (sp?) injection before surgery.
The nitro did nothing for me except give me a headache.
Citrucel helps.
Does anybody know anything about the botox?
Thanks.

The botox is so the muscles around the fissure freeze and do not cramp up, causing further pain.

I had surgery for a six inch anal fissure, due to constapation from hepatitis c treatments. I being a man have never had a baby, but I tell you it hurt bad, and I truly thought I would just keel over. It has been a sucess though they did have to take my sphincter muscle out, so when I gotta go I gotta go, theres no holding back.I now watch my fiber to keep my stools as soft as possible. Good luck
