Anal fissure and penis pain

by Little Nicky, Jul 21, 2004 12:00AM
For quite some time, I have had a problem with an anal fissure that comes and goes.  But, my question deals with the anal muscles and if they affect the urinary muscles.  After I have a bowel movement, I start to get some discomfort a few minutes later on the right side of the anal cavity and some stinging pain on the underside of my penis, almost like the pain from a urinary tract infection.  It appears to be some type of spasm. This pain subsides after a couple of hours, but returns after I urinate.  I have had numerous tests done, including tests for a urinary tract infection and other infections, along with testing for my prostate, which is fine.  Sometimes, if I drive in my car, the vibrations from the driving will cause some penile pain.  This is after a bowel movement.  I know that both areas appear to be totally unrelated, but is there a chance that the muscles from one area can affect the other area?  Both areas require some muscle control.   I did have hemorrhoids about two years ago.  Occasionally I have problems having a bowel movement after eating certain foods, such as meat, but it clears up after I return to my regular diet.  I have been taking Miralax to make me regular.

It may be possible that the penile pain can be referred from the pain from the anal fissure.  The fact that the symptoms are exacerbated after a bowel movement certainly supports this possibility.

You may want to focus on treating the anal fissure.  This would include topical nitroglycerin ointment, oral calcium channel blockers, or botulinum toxin injection.  If conservative therapy does not help the symptoms, surgical options may be then considered.

You may want to discuss these options with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
