Bip,

I wasn't aware that having an inflamed stomach (gastritis) would make you pee more--if that is what your doctor is saying.  Your doctor thinks you are peeing a lot because your *stomach* is bloated and inflamed?  I honestly don't understand the connection, but I am not a doctor.

If you are only taking Zantac, and your doctor thinks your gastritis is acting up again, maybe she should have prescribed a drug like AcipHex, Nexium or Protonix (one of the proton pump inhibitors) to lower the acid production in your stomach.  Do you have a precription plan?  If not, Prilosec can be gotten over the counter.  I don't know if it is as powerful as the other PPIs, but it would probably be better than taking a drug like Zantac.  Also, your doctor might have samples of one of these drugs and you should ask her if she could give you some if you can't afford them.  I take AcipHex twice a day because I also have a big problem with reflux and esophagitis/gastritis too.  Regarding the gastritis, your eating 6 small meals a day is a good idea, as eating smaller meals helps with reflux.  Also, you should look up the foods that irritate the lining of the stomach and esophagus and promote reflux--like caffeine, coffee/tea (the acid), spicy foods-peppers, tomatoes, onions, citrus, etc., and try cutting down on them or cutting them out, especially if you notice that any one of them bothers you.  Don't eat several hours before going to bed/lying down.  I'm sorry, but I don't know what else to tell you.

Sorry--I haven't had time to check the forum in a few days.

I tend to get more bloated as the day goes on-night is the worst (as I eat each meal and it piles up in my stomach).  But you don't know the cause of your bloating--it could be anything--and hopefully your doctor will try to figure it out.  You might have gastroparesis and you might not.  I would mention it to her and see if she thinks it's a possibility.  I would also ask her again about the constant peeing, especially if it continues to be a problem.  The two things might or might not be related.  I don't see how your frequent urination is caused by gastritis, but then again, I am not a doctor (and even *they* don't know everything--trust me on that one).  Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you.   Does gastritis cause bloated constantly?  I just hate feeling this way?  Im just scared this is cancer cause Im bloated and gassy 24 hours a day.   I try to hold it im much as I can  when I have to urinate.  I don't know if I should see a gasrto doc. or a urlogy.   I don't think the urination is related to my bloated either.   Can I ask you something do you think this is stomach cancer?  This is what Im afraid of.   See first I started urinatinmg alot then a week or 2 I  started looking bloated out.  Isn't that strange?  If the doc. thought I had stomach cancer I think they woulds of felt lump?  I know Im a little worried as you can see.  Thanks Annie

Gastritis can cause bloating and I guess if your gastritis/stomach inflammation is constant and not being treated properly, then your bloating could be constant too.  I would go to a gastroenterologist if I were you and tell them all your symptoms, including the urinary frequency.  When you say you have to pee all the time, are you just going often (frequency) or do you also pee a lot (amount) when you go each time?  If you are putting out a lot as well, that could be a sign of diabetes.  But you need to ask a doctor these things and try to get them to answer your questions.  I would also ask your doctor to put you on a PPI (like Protonix, AcipHex, etc.) instead of just Zantac.

Bip, if you are worried about stomach cancer, then you should go to a doctor just to ease your mind and tell them of your concern.  And it is unlikely they would feel a lump if you had stomach cancer unless you were extremely thin and had a very large tumor (and even then I don't know if they would feel a lump).  It is unlikely you have stomach cancer at 34, but anything is possible.  Almost certainly you do not and you are causing yourself a lot of anxiety.  But that is why you should go to a gastroenterologist to let them see your bloated stomach and tell them of your frequent urination as well.  Please go to a doctor.  If you don't have insurance maybe they will let you pay on some kind of payment plan.  If your bloating started a week or two after the frequent urination, then they might be related somehow.  Is the bloating up high in your stomach or to one side or what?  My bloating (which is due to distended stomach) is up high, and I assume yours is from your stomach, too, but it might not be.   When you call a doctor (gastroenterologist or otherwise) tell the secretary over the phone what your symptoms are (constant bloating, frequent urination that started at around the same time--and whatever else) and tell her you are worried about it.  She will write that down and then the doctor will know why you are there when you come in.  And you can tell him again what is going on once you get here.  I know it's scary having something going on and not knowing the cause, but the doctor should be able to figure it out.  He might want to do an EGD and then he can take a look in your stomach and see for himself if the problem is your stomach.  It can be done in his office or at the hospital.

I know I don't have  diabetities cause they did do a test ***** in the office and it was normal.  I just don't understand  why Im peeing with this.  M it looks like its upper abdomen or mid its not lower it looks like Im 3 months pregant and when I eat gets worst.......I know I worry way too much and I know stress makes me worst.  Just afraid I have a tumor orsomething pressing on the bladder and thats why Im bloated don't know why.  My doctor didn't seem to concern but I am  I was thinking calling my primary see if I could get a catscan done on my whole abdom maybe that ould ease me.....Did you ever heard of these symptons before?  Annie your a BIG help.....

by bip, Aug 12, 2007 05:25PM

I'm glad you don't have diabetes.  You still didn't say if you just pee often or if you also pee a lot (quantity).  If you don't wake up during the night to pee, then is it possible you are only peeing often/using the bathroom due to anxiety?  I'm NOT saying that's the cause.  I just wonder why your urge to pee often wouldn't also wake you up at night.  I don't need to pee every hour during the day and yet I NEVER make it through the night without having to use the bathroom at least once.  You said you were an anxious person but I don't know if that is due to your symptoms/not feeling well or your symptom (the peeing often) is due to your anxiety.

As far as the bloating, well, a lot of things could be causing it.  You said it is up high in your abdomen and it gets worse after eating.  It sounds like it is your stomach.  I would ask your primary care doctor if she thinks you should be referred to a gastroenterologist to have an EGD (scope) done or whatever he/she thinks needs to be done.  If they do an EGD they can look directly at the stomach.  That is how my gastritis/esophagitis, small hiatal hernia and, most importantly, the gastroparesis was initially diagnosed.  They can tell a lot of things by taking a look down there-including if you have a tumor, which is unlikely.  The gastroent. saw I still had food in my stomach.  I hadn't eaten for 17 1/2 hours and so he told me I had gastroparesis.  He then did a gastric emptying scan and it confirmed it.  They can tell a lot by looking at your stomach.  Maybe your bloating is only due to bad gastritis--I don't know.  I don't like being put to sleep, but it went well and I had no problems, just a little anxiety before the test.  I was glad I had it done.  I've had problems for years with my stomach (among other things) and just lived with it like everything else.  Now I take a medication that helps some (but not enough).  See what your PCP thinks about a gastroent. referral.

You are very helpful.  Im a very anxiuos person.  Believe me I am.  Just get scared of everything.  Ill make appt. to see a gastro.  I feel pressure all the time then I pee so much like every hour.  Driving me crazy.  We have to live with things and when I read like ovarian cancer I think I have it.  My mind plays with me..... I have all the symptons of ovarian I get scared....

Do you think Im worrying for nothing?  What would help the bloating go down?

Good, I am glad you are going to make an appnt. with a gastroenterologist.  I know you are scared and maybe that will help relieve your mind if he can give you some real answers.

Also, maybe you should ask your PCP if she can prescribe something for anxiety.  There are many drugs that could help if you have generalized anxiety.

It sounds like you not only pee often but a lot (quantity)!  Unless you are drinking tons of fluids, there has to be another explanation for it.  You should mention this to your doctor again and to the gastro when you see him.

Maybe you are perceiving the bloating to be worse than it actually is if your husband thinks it is "low."  But if it comes on after eating then maybe you should make sure you eat before your gastroent. appnt. so he can see what you are talking about.  Like I said, if you have chronic problems with gastritis then maybe you should ask your PCP (or the gastro) for a drug like AcipHex, Protonix or Nexium.  That could help heal your stomach (gastritis) and possibly help with the bloating if it's from gastritis.  You might also want to try to use an OTC product that gets rid of gas and bloating--although I have no idea if one will help.  I've never used one.  Continue to eat small meals often and eat low-fat.  That helps with my bloating from the gastroparesis some.  I don't know if it will help you though.

And when I said I just lived with my symptoms for years, I didn't mean to sound dismissive of *your* symptoms or imply that you should just live with your symptoms and not try to find an explanation.  I would never tell you to do that or be dismissive of you.  What I meant to say is that I just lived with my (stomach) symptoms for years, like everything else (I have lots of other symptoms, neurologic and otherwise), because for 13 years I could not even get a doctor to believe that my symptoms were not in my head.  So, I never stressed to my doctor at the time how bad my stomach problems were because I figured he would just dismiss it along with the rest of my symptoms (and it also never occurred to me that my gastro problems could be neurologic in nature).  That is why I just "lived with it."  I wasn't implying that you should just live with your symptoms and forget about them.

Bip, I don't know if you are worrying for nothing.  I am not a doctor and even sometimes doctors aren't good judges regarding if a patient is "worrying for nothing."  They certainly weren't good judges in my case.  So, you are doing the right thing by going to a gastroent. and telling him what is going on with you and maybe he will suggest some tests.

Annie,  Thank you so much I made appt. with my gastro. its in sept. Now Im going to worry until sept.  Once I know what is going on Ill feel better.  I just don't understand why I urinate so much that is worrying me the most.  I just ate and it got worst.  Your right I do have to live with it.  I guess it can be worst out there.  I just always feel pressure where my bladder is and I pee alot. Its annoying. I did call my doctor and she just said give it 2 weeks so I am....

Bip, I would NEVER tell you that you just have to live with it!!  You need to find out what is causing your symptoms--which it looks like you are doing.  So, good luck at the gastroenterologist's and good luck to you, too.  You don't need to post back--just didn't want you to misunderstand what I had written.
