Antacids can cause rectal bleeding?

Antacids can cause rectal bleeding?

Hi,
I had stomach pain and acid reflux for the last 6 months. I was taking an antacid for the last 3 months for  it twice a day. Since this was a traditional medicine based antacid, I am not sure of its chemical composition.

I was asked to get a variety of tests done, and found that I have low B12(252) and Vitamin D levels (<4). This was attrributed to the antacids that I was taking. My stool routine came out normal (no ova/cysts etc) except for pus cells of 1-2/hpg. I am worried what *other* deficiency the malabsorption due to the antacid could have triggered. Like calcium/phosphorous etc.Should I get any further test done? My doctor said these were sufficient.

I am now put on Vit-D suplements and injections and B12 supplements for a period of 2 months.
I was told to go out in the sun. But I live in India, where it is sunny, (though I work in an AC environment indoors most of the time) . Can Vitamin D deficiency be triggerred by the antacid intake as well? Due to calcium depetion or something?

I have had a couple of noticed incidences of bleeding bright red blood in my stools.

Can the bleeding be due to the prolonged antacid intake? My stress levels are also high due to work pressure these days. And further on, the health problems are worsening the stress. I have cut down on spicy food, but could occasional intake be tied to the bleeding?

I am a 30 year old female. Want to start planning for a baby soon, and nutritional deficiency and additional bleeding in the stools is freaking me out, since I dont want to try for a child, when I am having health problems.

I have stopped the antacids now, and am coping with regular food intake and such. How much longer will it take for my body vitamin/mineral  levels to stabilize?

Please  help.

To add to this, I have been having chronic cough for the last 2 months too. I suspect low vit b12 could have caused it. I saw on the net that antacids and malabsorption can lead to lot of general health problems. Would you think the cough is related to the deficiencies as well?

Get tested for Celiac disease.  Have upper and lower endoscopy to check on your digestive tract.  I strongly suspect you have celiac disease or colitis.  If you turn out to have an allergy to gluten, you must stop eating it so your digestive tract can heal and you can stop the loss of nutrients.  Celiac disease can cause problems with pregnancy, but if you eat right, you can probably get pregnancy and be healthy enough to carry the pregnancy.  A gluten-free diet is annoying, but you can do it to get healthy.
