hi, yes its quite natural to experience refluxwithout pain, its basically acid thats been neutralised in the stomach before coming back up the oesaphagus.
My husband had terrible refluxGastroesophageal reflux disease Gastroesophageal reflux in infants Hiatal hernia repair Reflux nephropathy Vesicoureteral reflux since he was a child. Eventually, his esophogus got so irritated from the constant acid assault that the tissues mutated in defense. This condition is called Barrett's Esophogus. Because the esophogeal tissues had mutated and his esophogus was essentially burned up, he felt no pain. Not a good thing, because if the stomach acid isn't neutralized, those tissues can keep on mutating until they're cancerous. Luckily, prescription meds (aciphex) have made all the difference in his condition and he can now eat normally again.
A refluxGastroesophageal reflux disease Gastroesophageal reflux in infants Hiatal hernia repair Reflux nephropathy Vesicoureteral reflux diet mostly involves avoiding acidic foods and beverages like alcohol, caffeine, tomato products and spicy foods. Because reflux is often worse when a person is lying down, avoid eating two hours before going to bed. In serious cases of GERD, over the counter meds won't help. You've got to go for the big guns in the form of PPIs (proton pump inhibitors) like aciphex, nexium, protonix, etc., and since they're prescription meds, you have to see a doctor.
ive always had burping problems but never had a lot of heartburn but i do get a funny taste in my mouth and my throat feels slightly sore is this anything to worry about thanks
yes, very good question, even though the acid is neutralised, it is still corrosive to the oesaphagus, because the oesaphagus was never designed to tolerate acid, it must stay acid free, now the real problem with acid reflux is the valve or door to the stomach, when its not functioning properly, no matter how well you eat youll always have acid reflux, so to be on the safe side have an endoscopy to really be sure of the underlying acid problem.
