Are the surgical clips painful

Are the surgical clips painful

I had surgery in 1993, 16 years ago. For many years I have experienced fevers, nausea, vomitting, and pain in the chest cavity area below the breast. It also hurts when pressed with a lump to the touch. Is this normal. It was just revealed to me this year that there are surgical clips inside from the surgery. However, is this normal and why should anything be left in there? The last episode was pain in my flank area and they sent me to the urologist for kidney problems, which he found none. He's the one who informed me of the clips from the report. Until then I had no idea they existed. Has anyone found out anything about this?

Thank you

yup I had a xray of myself and my kidneys and about a year after I had gallbladder removal.  I could see the clips clear and bright on the film.  Hopefully those things will never fail :S but yeah the drain or vessel (not sure what to call it) that leads to the gallbladder I believe is cut and then sinched by some clip of some kind (not sure what it's made of)

I think if it failed you'd be severely sick liek ER room sick.. but you might be leaking bile or something causing your reaction but something to ask your specialist about.. pretty scary to have little foreign things in you huh?
