Aspirated Barium into lungs

by carm74, Feb 06, 2009 09:40PM
My 89 year old grandfather went in for an upper GI this morning. During the process fo digesting the Barium, he aspirated some into his lungs. When they did a chest x-ray, they found that he did in fact aspirate barium into his lungs, in addition the xray showed that he also has severe emphysema and partially collapsed lung. He has never been a smoker. He also is a diabetic. He was put on antibiotics and was given an inhalerto use every 4 hours. Should he see a Pulmonologist or a Gastroenterolgist?
