Baby and Pain

by John4, Jun 17, 2001 12:00AM
I don't really know where to start but I hope someone out there has some helpful info. to share. I have a 7.5 month-old who has had g.i. pain for months now. At 6 weeks he had surgery for Pyloric Stenosis. Since then he has suffered from oral thrush and a constant battle with poop regularity (it's either diarrhea or he's constipated). The thrush has been gone for a while now (thanks to Gentian Violet), but he always seems to be discontent, fussy, and in some sort of pain. We tried Karo Syrup, prunes, and pears for the constipation -- all to no avail. Phillip's Milk of Magnesia seems to do the trick, but I don't like the idea of having to use a laxative on a regular basis. We recently had an upper g.i. done which showed pyloro spasms. The pediatrician (I have yet to see a ped. gi specialist) said to try Maalox or Mylanta. I tried Maalox and saw no improvement so the ped. then prescxribed an anti-spasmotic. We used that for a week and I thought I noticed some improvement but NOTHING substantial enough to warrant the use of that kind of drug. Anyone out there have anything to add? Any suggestions to make? I'm open to anything. This is not my first child, so I don't think I'm making mountains out of molehills. I am just trying to figure out if he is in pain and what it is and how to fix it. Maybe he's just a really fussy baby and I'll have to wait for him to outgrow the fussiness. But it seems g.i. related to me???? Thanks.

im sorry to hear about your babies pain.................I don't have any answers but could he be bothered by his milk?  Does he take formula?  That could give him a real upset stomach and make him fussy and all the other stuff...Have you ever given him that gasx for babies? My 2nd baby just turned one and she gets diarrhea when she is teething and extremely fussy i use a homeopathic teething gel and tablets that seem to work.....teething can make them extremely fussy..I think you are very concerned parents and are doing the right thing, trying to make your baby feel better!!! good luck!!! God bless!!!!! : )

I agree with the above comment. What kind of formula is your baby on? COuld he be alergic (allergic) to milk products? Have you tried soy products? There are also prescription formulas for babies who can't handle the soy or milk.
Good luck to you!
