Back Pain Loratab regimen

I suffer daily with lower back and leg pain due to nerve damage and disc surgery some years back. I am on a regimen of 20mg of Lortab 3 times a day and frequently take a fourth dose on late evenings. I have been told that the pain medication will do great harm to me down the line due to acetominophin content. Any advice would be appreciated.
