Back injury resulting in esophageal dysmotility

Back injury resulting in esophageal dysmotility

In November I had a car accident that crunched my back pretty well.  I had compression fractures in my T3 vertebrae and the discs above and below it were pretty well flattened, my ribs were pulled out of place from my spine and from my sternum. I went to the chiropractor from two days after the accident until March which was when we decided the area was pretty much back to normal and I could go to once a month adjustments.

After I quit going twice weekly I started having stomach/GI problems.  After several theories on what was wrong I was diagnosed with 60% dysmotility of the esophagus and a hiatal hernia.  The hernia is most likely from having children, though I think it was probably aggravated by the dysmotility.  My chiropractor and my physician are both of the opinion that the dysmotility is a result of the thoracic spinal injury.

I'm going back to the chiropractor twice a week to get that area adjusted and get the pressure off the nerves and I'm on Verapamil for the dysmotility and something like Nexium for the reflux.

Is this something I will have to deal with for the rest of my life or will it clear up when my back has had more time to heal?  Can it be controlled with medicine or will it get progressively worse?  (things I should've asked my doctor, but forgot about at the time.)

Thanks for listening.
