Bacterial Gastroenteritis/Lap Band Surgery

I am a 38 year old female who, on June 14, went to a local ethnic festival and ended up being hospitalized less than 12 hours later. After a 8 hour stay in the ER--and a negative sonogram, other than to say that my bowels were swollen--my diagnosis was bacterial gastroenteritis. Although my physical condition has improved greatly--I know longer have severe cramping and violent diarrhea--I still have soreness in my belly which my Internist attributes to the bowel having to readjust itself and heal. How long does it take? Shouldn't it be completely healed by now??

I am having Lap-Band Surgery on Tuesday, 7/28 and I told the NP in the office that I had this condition over a month ago. My stomach still hurts--I attribute it to nerves because I am ok when I am sleeping or distracted--and I'm just worried in general.

I am respectfully asking for your thoughts on the matter and I would appreciate a quick response.

Thank you very much.
