Bad nausea three years after gall bladder removal

by dleach, Jan 12, 2002 12:00AM
Hello,

Maybe there is someone out there who can help me. I had my gall bladder taken out three years ago, after experiencing a full year of intermittent terrible pain, nausea, bloating, etc.

This past November I started having terrible nausea, bloating, gas, etc intermittently. The only difference is that there is no abdominal pain this time. But the nausea and other symptoms are really, really bad. I feel full all the time even when I haven't eaten. Also, my last period was three weeks late, probably because I wasn't eating much and lost 16 pounds in 1.5 months.

I have had all sorts of tests - liver and thyroid function, stool, pregnancy full blood, stomach endoscopy, etc. All tests are normal. I am really worried that this is going to take a long time to diagnose, just like when I had the problems in '98.

Has anyone else had this type of experience or have any ideas?

Thanks!

Danielle

Hi,
I had the same type of problem. I had terrible pain, bloating, and nausea that keep progressing. It took forever for a diagnosis but finally it was found my gallbladder was nearly non functioning and was taken out. That was 2 and half years ago. Soon after the bloating and nausea returned without the pain. I have now been found to have GERD (acid reflux) with Barrett's. I've been on Previcid twice a day and that helps some. I am scheduled to see a surgeon this week for surgery. Have you been checked for GERD and Barrett's? If not, you may want to check with your Doctor. Best of luck.

Have you had the Gastric Emptying Test yet??  Your symptoms mimic Gastroparesis.

Hi there,

I am in a similar situation  - had my gall bladder (pretty much wasn't working at all) out and now I just found out I have Barretts resulting from reflux also.  I'm curious about this surgery.. can you give me some info?  I'm taking 40 mg of Nexium every day and that helps somewhat but I still have this reflux that drives me crazy.  I'd love to talk with you more about this - if you feel like it, please email me at pixie_dust1969***@****.

Good luck to you; hope to hear from you soon.

Also, am I the ONLY one who cannot post a new question????  I have been trying for days and it says the quota has been reached but I see new questions popping up on here all the time - I don't get it!

I've had chronic nausea for around four years now.
About ten years ago I was diagnosed for GERD and took
Pepcid until Prevacid was available a few years ago.
The Prevacid provided complete control of my reflux and
I rarely experienced heartburn. Anyway, I have had all the
standard diagnostic test performed, and everything is normal
except for a small section of Barretts. The doctors don't have
a clue why I have nausea. It usually occurs in the morning and
improves as the day progresses, sometime coming back in the
evening. I thought that perhaps the reflux itself was causing
the nausea, or maybe my gallbladder. I had my gallbladder removed
and also a fundoplasty performed last July. Still have the nausea
and have developed bloating and diarrhea since the surgery.
I take compazine and xanax for the nausea, which helps a lot.
Anyone here have similar symptoms, particularly the nausea.

Thanks... I will have the gastric emptying test. They are also talking about an MRCP.... Has anyone tried an alternative treatment for stomach motility with any success? Or for post gallbladder problems?

I have a question. I have been having severe abdominal Pain in the upper Quads just below the ribs, right shoulder pain, diarhea (diarrhea), nausea, more severe right after I eat lasting for about 1-1/2 hrs. I went to the doctor, she did an ultrasound on my Gallbladder, found no stones. Now my sister my father ,my brother all had their gallbladder removed, and had no stones. This doctor is telling me she does not think it is my Gallbladder. I am a Paramedic, and I believe it is. Anyone heard of this. Oh yeah, as of this week I really don't have the severe abdominal pain just Nausea , and right shoulder pain. Does this problem go away and come back..  Jeff Please email me if anyone has answers ... ***@****

my gallbladder taken out last august, felt ok for two months after, but the nausea, diareha and vomitting and pain under my ribs is happening again, pain more severe not than befor the gallbadder was out.  my doctors just keep sending me with more medicines saying they have no idea/  i have been in hospital twice since frbruary this year with extreme pain under left rib and right rib, vomitting severly with diahera with buckets loads. appetite not well, bloating eay.  i got out with new meds. i am so tired of always gettings meds thrown at me with no reasons as to why. they said my xrays and cat scan of stomach were normal, stomach emptying test shows "abnormanl".  i asked what does that mean---- is it a lifetime thing i liver with or is it
treatable.  doctor says i worry too much about it and should leave the treatment up to him?? well, guess what, he is not the one taking five new meds that "all" make you drowsy and i have to drive to work each day, should be fun.  they gave me protonix, nexium, and others i cannot remember at this time. i am confused as to wether to take it all or not.  doctor says i worry too much, but boy that is hard not to do when you are miserable eachday you wake up and you have no idea how bad is going to be and at what time it will act up.  any good suggestions out there for me?  ps- my doctor never even mentioned a diet program, surely there is a diet program to help.
