Belching, Dry Cough, Gagging sensation, Anxiety disorder?

by Geo25, Jan 07, 2008 12:08PM
Hey there, this is my first post but i've been reading through a lot of these posts for the last few weeks. Anyway, I'm wondering if I could get an idea as to what's causing the symptoms i'm having? For the last 3 years i've been dealing with Anxiety/Panic attacks, but last year it became an all day, every day affair. I was told I have an anxiety disorder but I didn't want to take meds for it, I've been doing my best to fight it off on my own. When my anxiety was at it's worst I was having the following sensations.

Heart pain, pressure, palps, ( I've had ekg's and an echo cardiogram and my heart is fine)
I've had balance issues, irritable bowel, depersonalization, head sensations, shaking, numbness/tingling, pretty much all the anxiety symptoms. It didn't help that I spent a lot of time googling my symptoms, I just ended up having more and more and worrying/stressing out. I've since fought my anxiety back to almost normal, through willpower and determination but some problems do still remain, I still have undigested food in my stool and infrequent bowel movements. I had blood red blood in my stool/toilet 3 years ago, I had a barium enema done and nothing was found, It never came back. My remaining symptoms is frequent belching, dry cough, and a gagging sensation that can stick around for a week and then leave for 3 weeks. It's infrequent but it happens. I had pain in my esophagus when I was 18 and had a barium swallow which came back fine. I'm 25 now, in good overall health, Regular exercise as I'm a competitive bodybuilder but I focus a lot on cardio as well. I moved furniture over the last 2 summers and started noticing the gag/cough after I was doing heavy bench press which I really struggled on the rep, a few months back. This post is really long so i'm going to end it here. But after anxiety/panic I still have a good amount of belching, dry cough, and that gag reflex that comes out of nowhere, I still have irritable bowel as well. I do still deal with anxiety but it's not as bad as it used to be. Again, sorry for the long post.

I've had the same symptoms. I'm wondering about the gagging sensation, or the feeling like I'm going to gag but I control it. Did you ever find out about it? please let me know my email is ***@****

Similar symptoms myself actually. Have noticed certain foods cause me to gag but as far as I can tell its more of a texture issue. I feel full always so I force myself to eat because I am underweight. Had a drug problem , mostly marijuana but probably polydrug category... Since then life has been very odd. Depersonalization yes, lots of strange psychological states, severe IBS (thought it was a gluten allergy at first, considering getting a biopsy to be sure it is not), stress, pain in body usually lower back mid back, stomach, under my left rib. Insomnia, brain fog, poor memory... I feel like I am dieing most days or that something is seriously wrong... other days that I am supposed to feel this way, but at 22 it does not seem right. I tend to think of my youth when I felt great all the time, had boundless energy , and was able to sleep when I needed to.
