After gall bladder removal in 1999 I have xperienced bile refluxGastroesophageal reflux disease Gastroesophageal reflux in infants Hiatal hernia repair Reflux nephropathy Vesicoureteral reflux into my duodenum. I tried bentyl before meals, then switched to Reglan (10 mg) for 4 years, then had success with Carafate for almost three years. In the last month the Carafate no longer stops the bile refluxGastroesophageal reflux disease Gastroesophageal reflux in infants Hiatal hernia repair Reflux nephropathy Vesicoureteral reflux & burning in my duodenum after most meals. I was told to dissolve carafate and take Prilosec 30 minutes B4 meals, then a 5mg Reglan before bed. Nothing seems to work and it is diminishing most things that I can eat--starting to cause weight loss. I had bladder cancer in 2001 and that has been clear ever sense. I was diagnosed with pancytopenia in late 2005 and mile white, red, platlets, and hemoglobin remain in the low end of normal or high end of low range---most recent tests last week. Foods that trigger the most bile reflux were always dairy products, any type of oils other than olive oil, and any type of fried foods. Recently it seems almost anything I eat causes the bile reflux burning in the duodenum area.
You may want to consider the use of a bile-binding resin like questran.
