Your doctor didn't even do a blood test? They can push around and guess as to what the problem is, but thats about it. I agree with Jumong, you need to get a endoscopy done, at least (maybe a colonoscopy too). then you can really tell whats going on.

We can't speak of a diagnosis without an endoscopy. You haven't been vomiting blood or had any of the symptoms associated with duodenitis but you do appear to have anemia, which is never a symptom of duodenitis. And the duodenum is to the right of your belly button, not the left. You should have an endoscopy done and if I were you I'd get a second opinion.

Thanks for the advice... no i dont take any painkillers niether do i smoke nor drink. he didnt performed any tests on me either... he pressed my stomach at several spots and found a hard spot a little above my belly button, which he said was due to bleeding in the duodenum. (duodenitis). i dont have nausea, vomiting headache, fever just that i feel weak sometimes and  often little pain on the left of belly button. its not that i pass reddish or blackish stool each and every time. it occurs at an interval of 4-5 days. then again my stool gets normal. i am tensed... plz help. once again thanks a lot!

well.. first hope you get feeling better - not an expert here but I've heard some things about this...

one - the brighter the red, the closer to the um.. rectum if that makes sense so if your stools are dark almost black that usually indicated a ulcer of some kind in your stomach which is waaaay up the pipe as you can say (which is what your doctor basically told you..)... my question to you is... did you get tested for h.pylori?  That's a common test - that's usually the cause of ulcers.... usually you treat it with 3 antibiotics at the same time.. if you haven't been tested for H.pylori (usually a breath test or blood test..) then I would get a new doctor asap...

if you're taking aspirin or any pain medication you want to stop right away since that might have caused your ulcer or continues to make it worse if you are.. those are known to cause ulcers... smoking can do that as well..I wouldn't drink or eat anything acidic- I'd eat a pretty bland blah diet (applesauce..bananas..bread).. until this gets resolved.  Basically the heavier the meal the more stomach acid the stomach creates and your pain level/discomfort/nausea will go up...

same thing if you use pepto bismal..it'll work short term but once it wears off your stomach acid will rocket waaay up...

usually duodentis is diagnosed by endoscope (camera) or that h.pylori test.. and if that h.pylori test was negative then your doctor is on the right path (I think I've never heard of those drugs..).  You could probably ask if it's ok to take nexium or prilosec in the meant time (proton pump inhibitors) to help your stomach...typically if you don't have an ulcer created by pain pills or a bug/virus then you do a PPI...

anyway try and relax (I know easier said than done..) but hang in there stick with the meds and ask the doctor if you've been tested for h.pylori and if not ... I would probably do it...  and definitely stay away from alchohol/smoking/pain meds and anything you think would be hard on the stomach (spicy acidic foods..)

anyway hope that helps.. sorry you're suffering this long..
