Blood/Mucus in Stool

I am a 27 yr old female with 3 children (I am sure I have hemorroids (hemorrhoids)), for about the past 6 months I have noticed blood and sometimes mucus in my stool.  I had my gallbladder removed about 2 years ago, so I have diarrhea also.  Lately, I have had some nausea and cramps.  So I was wondering, what does this sound like?  All my symptoms are as follows:  blood in stool, mucus in stool, narrower stools, cramping, nausea, diarrhea.

There are several possibilities.  With bright red blood, it is most likely hemorrhoids - which would be the most common cause of bleeding in your age group.



However, with the mucous and change in stool caliber, I would pursue this with some sort of endoscopy.  Other things to think about would be cancer, a polyp, inflammatory bowel disease or malabsorption.  An endoscopy - either a flexible sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy - would be the best test at this time.



Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Hello. Please get this checked out! I could be hemmeriods or it could be colon cancer. I am not trying to scare you but no matter what the doctors say, you are not too young to get this. I read stories all the time of people our age getting this horrible cancer. And it is VERY curable if caught early! Just get checked out to be on the safe side. Best wishes, Danielle

your symptoms sound a lot like c.diff.  i had similar symptoms and i was diagnosed with it.  i got it from taking antibiotics for an ear infection.  if the cramps and mucous persist i recommend that you ask your dr to check for the c.diff bacteria.

My 17 year old daughter has a large amount of blood passed during bowel movements.  Was hospitalized two weeks ago.  Had colonoscopy and was found to have hemmaroids.  Symtoms continue weight loo, loss of appetite, pain in lower abdomen, vomiting, and still much bleeding. My feeling is that something else is going on here.  Any further tests indicated?

I went to Dr today, I have to have a colonoscopy next Tues. (9/23).  That's all I know.

c diff is clostridium difficile.  its a bacteria in your stomach that,if overgrown, can cause you to be sick.  its usually a result of taking certain antibiotics as the antibiotics can kill the 'good' bacteria in your stomach.  when the good bacteria is killed off the c diff bacteria produces a toxin that can cause mucous in stools, diarrhea as well as severe cramping.  not pleasant but the mojority of the time its treatable.   i had a hard time getting rid of it and i still do not feel 100%.

My 17 year old son has been experiencing diarria and with blood for the last 5 days.  The Doctor treating him believes accutane is the cause.  He is off it now but has lost 12 pounds and is still weak.  He is on new medication to treat the inflamation (inflammation) of the colon.  He has not improved much today and my Wife and feel he may end up in the hospital tommorrow after we talk to the Doctor.  I will keep this forum posted.

I could use any information I can get. I have been havinng a variety of symptoms over the last six months. It began with constipation and some very foul gas. After a while I was having bouts of constipation alternating with diarhhea. At this time I started having a lot of mucus mixed in with stools and sometimes that's all that would come out. Also at that time I started having sharp,short pains in no caertain location in my my stomach. Now the diarhhea is better but that's about it. I have been to doctors and all insist it could be nothing nore than IBS, because of my age, physical fitness and no family history of serious disease. Although they have done no tests to rule out any thing more serious? I have taken medication for parasites with no luck. Sorry about the detailed info but does this sound like anything to anyone?

Amandacm here - I had my colonoscopy yesterday (9-23) - it is colon cancer.  Today (9-24) I met with an oncology surgeon.  So far, it could be colon and possibly uterine cancer (the front wall of the colon that is effected touches the uterus.)  A CAT scan will have to performed to find anything else.  I'll try keep you updated.

I am so sorry to hear this for you.I am worried now as well.PLease keep eveyone up to date.I have to say this I am on this Tuesday the 28 of October going to get a colonoscopy done in July of this year I had a laparotomy done for adhesions and remove my ovaries.But this is what I wanted to say I have had blood in my stools for over 3 years and finally when I got the nerve up to go in my Dr said it was an ulcer.I am 26 female with 2 kids.And now the blood it comes at least every other week and have noticed like I do not know what you mean by mucous but it looks kinda like a saliva like thing sorry.But kinda makes me ill and quite a few times now when I have to go to the bathroom really bad a Bm you know it is only blood and alot of it.I decided to go in and have lived this long with it thinking it is a ulcer now my doc says no it can not be an ulcer he says maybe this maybe that  you know!! But I have been feeling not hungry lately and I have lost about 10-15 pounds in about 3 months I thought it was all the adhesions but now reading your post..I am wqorried what do you think??Blood in the stools maybe mucous not sure exactly what it is and fatigue losing weight.loss of appetite!My grandma had pollips.I know that is not how you speel it!!But does it sound like it could be colon cancer.I have also started moving my bowels more frequently and it makes my belly inside sometime pain when I move them.And no hemroids found.I am worried as well!!Please I hope someone reads this!!God wioll be with oyu and take care of you!!I wish you the best of luck!!God bless!!

Hi I am 31 almost 32 year old female.  About 3 months ago I had an episode that lasted about 2 weeks in which I was constipated with very painful stomach cramping and pains in the area where my gallbladder is located with gas and bloating as well as stomach spasms (you could actually see my stomach jumping). Went back and forth to the doctor, she did some blood work up and told me it was IBS.  I finally got her to refer me to a gastro specialist and all he did was listen to my symptoms and listen and press on my abdomen and give me medication for IBS.  Well, now I have Dark green stools with mucous which looks a little red (blood).  I no longer have the cramping or constipation but I do have to go to the bathroom sometimes right after eating.  If the blood is on the surface of the stool where you can see it, should the water in the bowl turn somewhat red?  There is no blood on the toilet paper or in the bowl but it looks like it is in my stool.  Could it be the foods I eat or could it really be something more serious?  Please help if you know anything.  I am really scared!!!!

Hello, I am 25, a mother of one and just have a concern about my bowl movements.   For the longest time I can remember suffering from constipation, but never really had hemroids until the past couple of years.  My concern is that lately I have had bright red blood in my stools(not every movement) when I go and mucous around the stools as well(this I have had for a while).  I have also lost 20 pds after my son was born last November with no dieting or exercise.  I have constant dull pain in my abdomen (I dont know if it is cysts or if it is caused by my bowls). Colon cancer does not run in my family...at least not that I know of, so should I be alarmed, especially at my age?  What do you think?  Am I worrying for nothing?

My Dad has c-diff, does anyone know what's best to get rid of it. I know about flagyl and vancomycin, but what about these other homeopathic methods: acidophilus? How much should be taken. Also, he has hemorrhoids pretty bad and just had surgery a few weeks ago for a large abcess (abscess) inside his rectum. Now the doc wants him to have and endoscopy to check how this is. He has to do a fleet enema, won't this worsen his c-diff symptoms. He's been through so much, lost about 30 lbs, that I don't want to see him suffer anymore.

For those of you with diarrhea - alternating sometimes with constipation, weight loss, nausea, loss af appetite, fatigue, bloating, belching, and other unpleasant stuff - I had many of these which was totally dibilitating over 8 months. I could barely get out of bed, let alone work or lead a normal life (I'm a mother of two school-age children). Luckily my doctor decided to check for parasites and bingo - that was it. Unfortunately I had many problems from the treatment (beware of Flagyl, especially if you are sensitive to meds). It's just another something to consider when seeking medical attention. I'm 34 w/out children and was diagnosed 2 yrs. ago from a colonoscopy as having Proctitis.  Basically inflammation of the lower colon.  The doctors prescribed Colozal and suppositories (Canasa).  It seemed to work for a little while although I started experiencing joint pain from the Colozol so I backed off to using only the Canasa.   Well, for the last year, my symptoms have gotten worse and worse.  I see tons of blood with each BM.  It's like clockwork.  I eat, 20-30 minutes later I'm running to the bathroom with diarhea (diarrhea).  Not normal looking either.  It's mostly blood and looks as if everything else has disinegrated.  Hate to be graphic but I need answers!  The doctors don't seem to care much and say deal with it.  I'm so frustrated!  I've gone to an Accupuncturist to try alternative medicine and that helped temporarily but I can't afford to go every week and I want something to resolve what is causing this problem!  I tried alternative herbs and am still eating an organic, healthy diet.   I'm a fitness trainer and I'm fatigued all the time, sleep 10-12 hours if I can, go to the bathroom about 10 times a day (this is a lot of blood!) and am tired of this problem affecting every aspect of my life!!!  I'm depressed and afraid to go out anywhere that's not near a bathroom!  Please help me - I can't take this anymore...
