There are several possibilities. With bright red blood, it is most likely hemorrhoids - which would be the most
commonCommon cold cause of bleeding in your age group.
However, with the mucous and change in stool caliber, I would pursue this with some sort of endoscopy. Other things to think about would be cancer, a polyp,
inflammatoryInflammatory bowel disease
Ulcerative colitis bowel disease or malabsorption. An endoscopy - either a flexible
sigmoidoscopy or
colonoscopy - would be the best test at this time.
Followup with your personal physician is
essentialEssential hypertension
Essential tremor.
