Blood in stool

Blood in stool

My 16yr old son had a bowel movement today with a considerable amount of blood. He had the same thing happen one time, a couple of months back. I am concerned, should he be checked immediately or this a common occasional occurance that I don't need to be worried about? He does work out  and has football 6 days a week.

Does your son have any other symptoms like pain, cramping, diarrhea, constipation or both alternating, low grade fevers?  Hemorrhoids are always a possibility.  Is the blood bright red?  Is he pale and tired or energetic?

We can't diagnose on the internet, so it's always better to make an appt. to see a doctor and get their input.

The more information you can give us, the more input we can give you.

Hope this helps!

He said he had a slight discomfort in his stomach, but nothing terrible. No fever, cramping, diarhea (diarrhea), constipation or fever. The blood was bright red. He was neither pale or tired nor was he energetic. Other than the bloody stool and slight upset stomach he seems normal. Except very concerned about the blood of course since this is the second occurance in a few months.

You should get him checked at least by the primary care doc, and possibly by gastroenterologist.
