Blood in stool

Hi, I'm worry! My husband is 33 years old and for the past year and a half he has been having some bleeding episodes with his stool.  In 1995 he came home and complaint of butt pain. He had like a little bolloon on the anus but never bled.  Two years ago he woke up with horrible anal pain and I had to run to the pharmacy to get him some suppositories.  He felt better.  However 1 1/2 year ago he had an apisode of diarrhea, vomiting, fever and his last two bowel movements had blood. He is been bleeding since then.  He bleeds for a couple of days and then no blood until two or three months. He had digital anal test with our general doctor and a test where he said they put some air in his rectum and the doctor looked into his rectum with a telescope. This was perform by a colon doctor. The doctor said that my husband has 3 internal hemmorrhoids but that everything else looked normal.  Also, he has small narrow stools. Before he bleeds he usually complaints of pain in his rectum and when passing stool he feels like a glass cut.  The blood always appears on the water and sometimes just leaks after his bowel movement. The blood is bright red. No loss weight,vomiting or fever.  Do you think he should have another test done. There is no history of colon cancer in his family.  However 4 of his brothers including his father have hemmorrhoids.  Two of which had to have surgery. Did the test performed by the Colon doctor is enough to rule out colon cancer.



ps. Also, his stomach makes some loud noises and this is ussually relevied by passing gas.

Also, two years ago he went to our general doctor because his stoll was floating. The doctor did not seem concerned. He just said to cut down on sodas and fat.

Hemorroids and an anal fissure would be the most common causes of rectal bleeding in that age group.  If the telescope was a flexible sigmoidoscopy - that would be an appropriate test.  If it was only an anoscope - then I would suggest a flexible sigmoidoscopy for further evaluation to ensure it isn't a polyp or cancer.



If the suppositories aren't helping the situation, and the bleeding is due to hemorrhoids, then you may want to consider surgical therapy (i.e. banding or removal) to treat the hemorrhoids.  



Followup with your personal physician is essential.

This sounds an awful lot like the problems I've been having. Does your husband have episodes of severe bloating after eating that give the sensation of shortness of breath? Does he have GERD?

one sure way to alleviate your fears - painless and pretty easy (the prep is the worst part ) a colonoscopy. if he is clear, he can rest easy for 7-10 years regarding his colon

I forgot to ask - does your husband have a desk job where he sits for long hours? I do and I ended up with bad internal hemmorrhoids. These darn things will swell up and bleed every now and then if something isn't done to relieve the pressure. Anyone who sits a lot should check out this website:

Thank you for your reply.  You are right! he should have a colonoscopy but you know how doctors are.  If you are not 40 or more they don't want to perform this test and since he was diagnosed with 3 internal hemorrhoids and perform an anoscope and a sigmaidoscopy they left it at that. Did you have this test done or went straight to the colonoscopy. If you don't mind me asking you age. Any coments would help. My husband looks healthy and this is been going on for almost two years now. He bleeds on and off.

No my husband does not have severe bloating but he is gassy. He does kitchens and installs kitchen cabins.  He lifts heavy countertops.  He comes from a family of 8 brothers and out of the eight 5 of his brothers have had hemorrhoids and two had surgery. They also bleed. The bleeding bothers me a little but I'm more worry about the change on his stool.

Heavy lifting will cause hemmoroids (hemorrhoids). Anyone who lift weights knows this very well. I am willing to bet you the bleeding is from internal hemmoroids (hemorrhoids) and the narrow stool could also be from the same if the hemmoroids (hemorrhoids) become very swollen from straining while lifting. He should be examined by the doctor again for further evaluation.

Hi,

I am a 33 y/o male On Fri I was on the toilet constipated after about 5min i decided to get up and leave I turned around and i was shocked to see blood in the water. I was very freaked out.....

I ran to my doctor on Mon and he gave me a quick once over he even inserted a small clear tube into my rectum to look inside. He said he could not see anything or feel anything inside. He has booked me for a Barrium enema and said if this test comes back negitive thats all the testing he will do and he will assume it was a one time thing.

I thing I should get a colonoscopy just to make sure????

This was the first time anything like this has happened to me and i have had several bowel movements since.

I also told my doctor that my dad has hemmroids and i had them also  but he said he didnt see any???



Any advise Please I am really shaken up by this
