Blood in stool

I am almost 30 year old woman who is in good health. Over the past year and a half I started noticing that sometimes there is a a little blood in my stool. It happens from time to time. It doesn't hurt when I go and I wouldn't of noticed it except when I wipe it's on the tissue. This morning I have had some watery stool and this last time when I wiped I noticed what appeared to be small blood clots and some blood (bright red). I looked in the toilet and it was enough to tinge the water red. I do plan to finally swallow my pride and make an appointment but was wondering what could be the causes in the mean time. Thank you so much.

I have been told that you need to worry if you see blood in your stool, versus on your stool. If the blood is in your stool, you should get checked out. I know that after tearing my rectum from hard stool, I can still bleed afterwards when my stool softens.  Sorry if this is tmi.

There are many possible causes of rectal bleeding.  From your description it sounds like an anal fissure or haemorrhoids - but you are right to get it checked out.

For more possible causes/symptoms/treatments, type in rectal bleeding to google/yahoo etc and click on to one of the many sites.
